With the lack of new scifi shows and the death of andromeda and Trek, it

There's also that new show on NBC about the discovery of some new kind of monster
fish or something. I can't even
remember it's name. That's not a good sign, is it?

I wonder how this show will compare with the other alien invasion
show, "Invasion"? "Invasion" certainly has a great time slot following
"Lost", while "Threshold" is on a night that gets fewer viewers. I
liked the pilot episode of "Invasion" enough to check out the show
once it gets going, but I haven't seen a pilot for "Threshold" yet.
Even so, I'll probably check it out because Carla Gugino is in it.

I've heard about the new Nighstalker show going to be on ABC but I haven't heard
about Invasion. What's it about?

You can see the schedule and get info on all of the new shows here:
http://www.epguides.com/grid/fall.shtml

It seems we have three shows about aliens coming to Earth. I wonder if
any of them will make it to a second season?

Invasion---------------
Man has searched the skies for centuries and has never come up with
conclusive evidence to prove the existence of other forms of
intelligent life. What if we have been looking in the wrong place?
What if there were other forms of intelligent life already living
among us? What if perceived natural disasters were really diversions
created to conceal clandestine alien activities?

When a small town at the edge of the Florida Everglades is threatened
by a raging hurricane, U.S. Park Ranger Russell Varon must go to great
lengths to protect the small community and his family safe. During the
storm his young daughter claims to have seen mysterious lights,
seemingly unaffected by the gale-force winds, floating near the water.
Varon dismisses the sighting, but begins to wonder if there really was
some truth to the story after his missing ex-wife turns up naked and
her memory of the storm is completely gone.

While the community begins to clean up after the storm and piece their
lives back together, Varon begins to investigate the strange
happenings as he tries to make sense of what is happening.

Surface-----------------
Surface is an action-adventure drama project from writers-directors
Josh and Jonas Pate. The network has greenlighted a pilot from the NBC
Universal Television show, which is described to be in the vein of
James Cameron's "The Abyss" and revolves around mysterious creatures
deep in the ocean. The twin brothers penned the pilot script and are
set to direct and executive produce the pilot.

The brothers, who started off in features with "The Grave" and
"Deceiver," most recently served as co-executive producers of Dick
Wolf's short-lived series for ABC, "L.A. Dragnet."

NOTE: The original title of the series was Fathom but was changed
after it came to light that the rights to the name were owned by
another company

Threshold-----------------
Threshold, from producers David Heyman, David Goyer, and Brannon
Braga, and written by Bragi Schut, revolves around a female government
contingency analyst who leads a team of scientists and military
personnel who get in contact with a mysterious alien lifeform. Blade
writer/director Goyer is on board to direct the Paramount Network TV
pilot. He also will exec produce with Heyman, producer of the Harry
Potter movies. Schut is co-exec producing with Mark Rosen.

I will watch the first episode to see what it is like, and decide from then
on. IMHO, Brannon Braga did some pretty screwed up things to Trek, but some
of my favorite episodes were also wrote by him. Also, Spiner is in it and I
have always liked him, so I will tune in and check it out.

I had not heard of it. Thanks for mentioning it - I will probably check it
out. I'm surprised they put it on Fri. which is a busy night on the Sci. Fi.
channel. Glad I have VCRs.

I will be watching it. I think the Sci Fi Channel shows will have ended
their first half season by then.

I'll be watching when it starts - if I remember (Third week in a row I've
forgotten CBS's run of _Veronica Mars_ until too late).

The question is how long I'll be watching. I'll be surprised if there's one
keeper in the new batch of "*out there* is hot this year" network series and
even if it is _Threshold_ CBS is the most likely to do a quick ratings plug
pull. I'm thinking NBC's _Surface_ may turn out to be the most interesting of
the batch but that ABC's _Invasion_ probably has the best odds for ratings
survival.

I thought Invasion had some new twist or something, but it seems to me to be
another Invasion of the Body Snatchers kind of series. If that's so, it don't
stand a chance.

Or another _Lost_ - a soap opera mystery with no answers. _Invasion_ is being
targeted to hold _Lost's_ audience for another hour but with _Lost_ moving to
nine holding that audience to eleven might be a tall order. An eight o'clock
audience is not a ten o'clock audience.

But the promise of a naked chick, a la a female John Doe, in the first
minutes of the premiere ought deliver big opening numbers.

The problem with big opening numbers is that they plummet downwards shortly
thereafter and are fairly difficult to keep them high that way. As for Lost, I
never could make any sense of that show and I forget when it comes on.. To me it's
like Twin Peaks without any interesting characters. :-)
