Pretty interesting. Roddenberry was sure one to recycle his
favorite ideas. Maybe it was Fate that Gene's ideas about intelligent
and evolving space probes died with Genesis II but became the core idea
of Star Trek: The Motion Picture five
or six years later.

And of course, another Dylan Hunt incarnation being the
heart and soul of Andromeda. Interesting man, Gene Roddenberry.

Genesis 2 became the seed for STTMP? Seems like it ws a straight remake
of the TOS Trek ep "The Changeling". Down to the amnesiac evolved old
earth space probe and the "Creator" mania.

You must not have read the descriptions of the Genesis II shows that
had never aired; there was one was about a NASA probe sent to Jupiter
where it evolves sentience, and three hundred years later it comes back
to Earth looking for its creator(s). That idea was more V'Ger than the
Changeling.

I just realized something:

-In "The Changeling," we meet the Earth probe "Nomad," which was modified by
aliens and returns to Earth (or tries to) to meet its creators.
-Then in DS9, we meet Odo (a "Changeling"), who was sent out to explore, and
wants to return to his people (but turns out to be completely unlike what
they intended him to be, due to his experiences on DS9).

Huh. Cool mirror-image plots!

as i recall, anyway, it hit another probe from another planet and they
modified each other to become Nomad

Though Star Trek 5 was [supposedly] one of the worst Trek film endeavors
[insurrection now holds that dubious distinction] I thought it funny
when KlaA used that old Voyager probe for target practice. It was kind
of payback for those three cruisers V'ger wasted at the beginning of
sttmp.

Dude, Star Trek 5 is a remake of The Wizard of Oz -- what's not to
love about it?

=============================
LORELAI: In the movie, only boy hobbits travel to Mount
Doom, but that's only because the girls went to do something
even more dangerous.
GIRL: What?
LORELAI: Have you ever heard of a Brazilian Bikini Wax?

Actually Generations is generally thought to be the sinking low point of the
franchise.

I think "she" already got the message, Rick.
