Just watched the much ballyhooed "redone" version of the classic Trek
ep. The redone Constellation was nice from the obvious commercial
plastic model from the original, but the creature wasn't that much
better, or different. The end shot when they destroyed it was actually
kind of inferior to the original. Plus with all the editing done to
increase commercial time, alot of cool lines were cut. Where the hell is
Spock's deadpan "Vulcans never bluff"? All in all i can say "meh."

And this has exactly what to do with alt.tv.real-world?

The editing is done as an option for the local stations that air it. I
suspect a lot of these local
station programmer managers aren't even aware that these episodes are
remastered.
The full episodes ARE being remastered. We'll have to wait for iTunes or
DVDs to see the full episodes rather
than the butchered versions that are airing now.

As for the changes for "The Doomsday Machine", the Constellation, as well as
pretty much all
the motion and combat shots were vastly superior to the original. The
machine itself, I'll grant you,
didn't have much improvement, but how much was really needed?

Indeed the combat scenes were much better. I am waiting to see the
"fleet scene" in "The Ultimate Computer". Who knows? Maybe they'll show
the fleet scene from the aborted "Battle of Organia" in "Errand of
Mercy."

I don't think so... their intent is to keep things very faithful to the original
in terms of run time and pacing, and they would not add an exterior SFX scene
that did not exist.

I think they got it right with the SFX. It enhances the show without
taking anything away. It's just when we get the actors on the screen
all of a sudden I need sunglasses.
