An important PSA to protect the brain cells of anyone who might have
accidentally tuned into scifi next fri afternoon.

I just finished watching the first 3 episodes of the series. Should I
keep going? I was pleased to see Robert Hewlitt Wolfe's name as the show
adapter but did he write more than the first 2 eps? Is his contribution
apparent further along? I like the concepts quite a lot but there is a
bit of cheese. Some of the acting was questionable, but I don't know if
that's just due to the actors not having a feel for their characters yet.
But so far, Sorbo is the best and I'm not sure what I should think of
that. There is a lot borrowed from other sci-fi series (Star Trek,
Farscape, Red Dwarf were the ones that stuck out most so far) but nothing
that seemed like a direct rip-off. Are the extras on the DVD worth
watching? How spoilery are they? If I keep going with the show, should I
watch in order or just catch episodes at random in syndication?

Andromeda had several 'weak' episodes, but it still remains one of my
favorite shows of all time. If I were you, I would continue to watch it, and
if you do, definitely watch it in order.

'cause it gets worse and worse and worse as it goes, so if you watch it from
the start, at any point you quit, you know you haven't missed anything
better than what you've already seen.

Not quite true - that is certainly true after the half-way point of
season #2. But it's not true before that point.

were just pure garbage...including the finale and
precursors, the "master" story arc concept (now that's an
oxymoron if I ever heard one.) What really shocks me though
was, from what Wolfe has said, his ideas for the climax seem
not too much different than some of what we saw!!!??? I
dunno, I must have misunderstood him--it surely couldn't be
that bad from his works (particularly in Star Trek) that I
have read. Curious... ...tonyC

Ya know, I was thinking the same thing reading this thread.
No matter how much I came to hate it later on I still kept
watching. Maybe it was that it was just so unbelievable to
see it self-destruct like that...or maybe it was the undying
expectation that it had to turn around again--i.e., the new
bosses just couldn't be that insane, could they?!
Grrrr...turns out, they were--right down to the end!

Yeah, you have a point--maybe the humor was the only saving

pretty (though we saw less and less of it towards the end
seasons.) ...tonyC

And humor can save some pretty lame SF. Even Lost In Space was ok once
they (and the watcher) realized it was a comedy...

Ack!

Lost in Space is horrible once it became a comedy.

I'm still trying to slog through the season 1 DVD set.

OK, I'll agree with that; it's hard to remember but the show
probably simply started to steadily decline throughout all
of S3 and by S4 was essentially ruined. I know R. H. Wolfe
certainly underwent the palace coup by sometime after S2,
but I can't be sure exactly when...that may have been
slightly gradual too through that time period 'cause his
name stayed on as producer forever. Guess it really became
hopeless by around S4, more or less around the time
Sorbocles became a top TPTB. We'll always be wondering just
how good the series might have turned out if R.H.W. had not
been overthrown... :(( ...tonyC

I just finished watching the first 3 episodes of
the

keep going? I was pleased to see Robert Hewlitt
Wolfe's name as the show

adapter but did he write more than the first 2
eps?

I was gonna be generous and say certainly after the 2nd
season up to the end--of course, all the eps after
Seefra
Post by David B

were just pure garbage...including the finale and
precursors, the "master" story arc concept (now that's
an

oxymoron if I ever heard one.)
I'll be generous and say that season 3 wasn't all that
bad. It wasn't great

either.
The coup was in mid-season 2. His last episode was "Ouroboros"
Episode #2.12

Yeah, that sounds right. Just checked tv.com; that was the
one where Bem leaves and Harper enlists the Perseids to
remove his embedded larvae--decent ep. Sure enough though,
after that the eps started to get spotty--we start getting
wacky things like the "Engine of Creation," Dylan waking up
to a wife and kid, and on, and on... (drastic decrease in
quality thereafter!) ...tonyC

What really shocks me though
was, from what Wolfe has said, his ideas for the climax seem
not too much different than some of what we saw!!!??? I
dunno, I must have misunderstood him--it surely couldn't be
that bad from his works (particularly in Star Trek) that I
have read. Curious... ...tonyC
This is Hollywood speak for, "my god, it sucks so bad, it's
ripping the food out of my mouth through my ass so fast, I can't even
enjoy it."

[Wolfe] still wants to work in Hollywood, so that means he has
to be nice and civil about the things that he's seeing.
