'Smallville' is as successful [as it is] simply because it is produced far
away from the worthless evil vortex of the US Imperialist domestic TV & Film
production system.

Thankfully, it wasn't made in canada. It would have been filled with
unknown people who couldn't act or staff who can't direct.

Hey, now! That's a load of bullshit. the Canadians have made some great
series like Strange Days at Blake Holsey High, and Mythqwest, among
others. And of course David Croenenberg made great sci-fi films like
Scanners, The Fly, Videodrome, Dead Ringers, and others.

Considering how American producers so badly fucked up the Doctor Who
movie and a long string of bad sci-fi shows (including Enterprise and
Battlescar Galactica), I wouldn't stand up and praise American ingenuity
all that much.

And who cannot love Red Green? RANGER GORDS WILDERNESS SAFETY
TIIIIIIIPS! Most hollywood fare does suck. And Doctor Who? How do you
expect americans to capture that unique British humor and sardonicness?
Can you imagine a modern hollywood remake of "Monty Python and the Holy
Grail??" Dumb and Dumber meet Airheads and don't get the point at all. I
personally am waiting for a bollywood scifi wave to be the next big
thing, replacing the canadian thing.

Why replace it? The vacuum created by Hollywood has enough room in it
for Corner Gas/Trailer Park Boys and all the Bollywood scifi you can
handle.

Something about "Nature abhors a vacuum". Corner stores are convenient,
too. White trash magnets or not.

If Smallville were filmed in the US the characters might actually touch each
other now and then. Even when they kiss it looks forced in a
Canadian/British way as if it were very dirty but the role calls for it. Ma
and Pa Kent are better in the touchy feely department. Lex actually touches
people sometimes when he talks to them and he is supposed to be cold
hearted. How many times has Lana been in the loft alone with Clark in a
tense romantic moment and they are three feet apart and are left there just
staring at each other, Gulp, Gulp?

I can't help but believe that it is an example of the conservative nature of
the filming environment. They need more shows like Clark's marriage to
Alicia or the pheromone episode (Heat) with Krista Allen. Bring in some
more Hollywood B movie chicks. Clark wants a red kryptonite boner before
the series ends. Don't let it end like "Enterprise" with a whimper.
