I thought Earth: Final Conflict's finale was terrible...

...but Andromeda's finale makes EFC look golden.

Man that was torturous. It didn't make any sense.

It was way better than the garbage that was EFC's final episode (not
saying much I know). At least Andromeda's didn't have those stupid
hissing Atavus assholes.

B) be enjoyable

of possibilty.

Dunno about that, but it sure didn't make any sense to someone not
familiar with the backstory. I take it at some point in the past the
Vedrans had been imprisoned but not destroyed in the Abyss, and that Dylan
was able to extricate from the Abyss back into normal spacetime, and
thereby restore the Galactic Commonwealth. I *think* that's what I saw.

Lots I don't understand:

How and when were they put into the Abyss to begin with?
What is the Abyss?
Who the heck were all those Trance Gemini's?
Is it just me, or did Trance over the course of the series evolve from a
cute airhead with a tail to a being like the Organians in another universe
with godlike powers? How did that happen?

Well, she started out *acting* like a cute airhead with a tail, at least
some of the time. But she's also had some very sharp moments, and there
have been hints at her having some unrevealed power all along.

In the pilot, Beka called Trance her "good luck charm", foreshadowing
many further events where Dylan basically asks Trance which choice
will have the best outcome.

During the season 1 episode "Harper 2.0", Harper refers to her as "an
enigma wrapped in a riddle with a tail in the middle", again hinting at
unknown capacities.

During season 2, in the episode "Pitiless as the Sun", it's revealed that
"another" of her kind visited the planet Inisi and basically played hob
with it. They try and torture Trance, but she turns the tables on them
behind the scenes.

Now, turning out to be an avatar of the Sun - that's a real shark twist.
But that applies to pretty much the entire last season.

Wrong. The Vedrans weren't imprissoned by anybody. For reasons of their
own, they withdrew their planet from all the slipstream routes and
effectively disappeared.

What is the Abyss?
Nobody is quite sure what the Spirit of the Abysss is. "He" apparently
seems to be some kind of anti-matter entity.

Trance is the Avatar of Tarn Vedra's sun. And as such, there is a
version of Trance in almost every time line. Just like there may be a
version of you in this and several other timelines.

You weren't paying attention, Trance always had great power; but like
Gandalf, she didn't show it unless she had to. After
her golden self switched places with her purple younger self we saw her
use her powers a bit more often. It was during the season 3 finale that
we saw Trance reveal to Dylan her true form, as a blazing ball of energy
like a miniature sun. And during several shows during season 4 on we saw
several versions of Trance. It's only in this last season have we seen
some of those other Trances impersonating our beloved Trance trying to
get Dylan either in trouble or killed.

I've always thought of it as the Vedrans went into Hiding
