Why did Rhade think his family was dead all those years?

I don't think that they ever explained it.

When they were transported to Seefra by Trance at the end of season
four, there was time distortion in the various members arrival there.
Rhade had been there so long and knowing Tarazed would be one of the
primary targets of the Abyss, he assumed it had been destroyed or at
least over run by Magog. It was a natural assumption for him to think
his family dead.

Nice theory, but Rhade was believing his family dead even before they
were sent to the Seefra system. He fell in love with that other
Nietschean woman back on the Arkology, thinking that his wife and family
were already dead; had already died.

My memory for past shows are not that good. But, perhaps Rhade thought
they had been killed in the Collector related mayhem that was going
about. Chock it up to another plot line unresolved.
