I was surprised to see the first ep of Farscape in syndication. Are they
planning on resuming production? TPTB at scifi must be getting
desperate, exporting their best shows for the syndication market. Now
all they need to do is move BSG to NBC full time and can the so called
"scifi" channel. I never thought I would say that, but the current state
of the scifi channel is so pathetic, with its hackneyed "original
movies" and limited reruns of REAl scifi, that its loss would be no big
deal.

I totally agree. There are times when I have a real NEED for what I
consider "hard SF" - space travel set in the future, space stations,
off-Earth colonies, etc. (Firefly, the Treks, Space: Above and
Beyond,... even Gil Gerard's Buck Rogers, for crying out loud.)
What's being called "science fiction" on other channels is all set in
our time, as are the Stargates (although they do have space travel),
so they're no good when I need a fix. And having a channel calling
itself SciFi, while being mostly monster movies, mutant-animal movies,
plague, horror, swords-and-sorcery, etc., is like finding out that
your favorite steakhouse has gone vegetarian. The few
future-space-travel movies they do show, tend to be the kind where
some malevolent force comes aboard and kills someone, and the ship's
crew are eventually pitted against each other.

If they can't/won't show actual, real, hard SF, then they should
change the channel's name, and let someone else be SciFi.

SciFi channel has always been poor. I certainly wont ever pay for it
again. Sky1 has always had far better SF/Fantasy content. I was
particularly impressed by the way they used to show the Buffy & Angel
stories back to back. That showed some real concern for the audience
interest as opposed to just the advertisers. You don't see that often
enough.

Tell you what - you put up the money and I'll run a decent SF channel.

Colin.

with "buffy" in the lineup, there goes your concept of a "decent" scifi
channel: down the tubes.
